Turn the Map Around is Pasciuti's red-cell method for understanding an opponent from the opponent's own point of view. Gather the available incidents, recordings, reports, and locations, then ask how you would produce the same outcomes under the same constraints. Identify repeated features, but treat each feature as a question rather than proof. In the Juba analysis, the team examined distance, camera height, civilian behavior, follow-up shots, and the camera's steady movement after attacks. Those clues suggested concealment in a vehicle and narrowed where the team should investigate. They then visited incident sites and compared the model with physical evidence. The method replaces mystique with a cycle of observation, perspective-taking, hypotheses, field tests, and revision.

In the wild
Pasciuti's team noticed that after a shot, the camera moved away steadily without the bounce expected from walking. Combined with the camera's consistent height and civilian behavior, that suggested the shooter and camera operator were concealed in a car.

The team visited the locations marked by sniper attacks, stood where victims had been, and inspected surrounding positions from the attacker's perspective. At one location, Pasciuti found a firing hole and American cartridge cases.
→ The physical evidence supported the conclusion that an American rifle was being used from a concealed position.
Common mistakes
Believing the ghost story
Treating an opponent as unknowable prevents the collection and comparison of ordinary patterns.
Promoting a clue to proof
A camera height, distance, or movement pattern should generate hypotheses, not certainty by itself.
